As the biggest video streaming platform in the world, YouTube's performance can definitely attest to why that is so. The streaming is fast and the video qualities are amazing on the platform, but it's not without its share of problems. One of the biggest gripes most users have with the YouTube app is that you can't multitask with it. Switching to another app while YouTube is playing will automatically pause the video. As mentioned above, the best thing about the BG Player is the fact that it fixes one of the biggest issues of the YouTube app. However, it doesn't do it by changing the nature of YouTube. Instead,  users will be able to access YouTube videos from BG Player's own app. There are no noticeable changes in the streaming and video qualities when watching from BG Player, but the app itself is pretty distinct from YouTube. It has a simple white interface that's divided into five tabs: Search, Stories, History, Playlists, and the Player.

The media player does not have the advanced controls that the YouTube app has. For example, there are no options to change the quality of the video, add captions, add subtitles, or even report or flag. The controls it does have are skewed towards music than videos. It has a button that lets you find lyrics for music videos. There's also a sleep timer button. Instead of the information below the video, users will find a playlist of related videos to their search topic. In terms of streaming performance, it's just as good as YouTube itself.

Additional Features

The only notable feature that BG Player has over YouTube is the Music Stories feature. At the bottom of the screen, users will be able to access the aforementioned tab that contains buttons labeled with different genres of music. Clicking on a button will automatically create a playlist of the songs from the user's chosen genre. It will also automatically play on the app's music player.

Final Thoughts

Other than the ability to play YouTube videos in the background, this app doesn't really have that much to offer. After all, it can't play YouTube videos on the lock screen either, a feature that many YouTube users have been clamoring for. Additionally, if you want a curated playlist of your favorite songs from a particular genre, getting Spotify might be a better alternative to this. All in all, it has good features that users might appreciate, but it's nothing to write home about.
